Sail across Fakarava's impossibly turquoise lagoon — one of the largest in the Pacific — to the remote Blue Lagoon and Green Lagoon (Teahatea), pristine, crowd-free sandbars where the water runs knee-deep and electric-clear.
What to expect
Step aboard a sleek catamaran as the village of Rotoava disappears behind you and nothing but blue stretches ahead. The captain anchors at a sandbar where the lagoon floor is visible 15 metres down and the colour defies description. Snorkel through coral gardens thick with parrotfish and blue tang, then dry off over a fresh Polynesian picnic of poisson cru, grilled fish, and tropical fruit on the sand. The return sail catches the trade winds perfectly.
