Slip into the crystalline waters of Cumberland Bay for a guided snorkel alongside the critically recovering Juan Fernández fur seal colony — a wildlife encounter of extraordinary rarity. These waters are a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve teeming with endemic marine life.
What to expect
A short Zodiac or panga ride takes you to the protected coves where fur seals rest and play just meters away. Your guide provides full snorkel equipment and a safety briefing, then leads you through reef channels rich with endemic fish species. The seals are naturally curious and often approach snorkelers closely. Water temperature is mild (around 18–20°C) and visibility is consistently excellent.
Good to know
Maximum group sizes are very small — book as early as possible via Crusoe Island Lodge's activities desk or website. A moderate level of swimming comfort is required. Bring reef-safe sunscreen only. Confirm all-aboard time with the expedition team; the Zodiac ride back to the village takes approximately 20 minutes.
