Juan Fernández Archipelago Sport Fishing: Deep-Sea Pelagic Charter

Cast lines in some of the most biologically rich and least-fished deep-sea waters in the Pacific on a private charter out of Cumberland Bay. Target yellowfin tuna, wahoo, and the famous Juan Fernández rock lobster grounds in waters virtually untouched by commercial fishing.

What to expect

Your captain departs Cumberland Bay and heads for the pelagic drop-offs where Pacific currents concentrate baitfish and their predators. The boat is rigged for trolling and bottom fishing, and your captain knows precisely where the fish hold. Between strikes, the marine scenery — volcanic sea stacks, soaring seabirds, occasional dolphins — is extraordinary. Catch-and-release is encouraged for conservation; rock lobster may be kept subject to regulations.

Good to know

Book the charter well in advance — the island has very limited vessels. Confirm all-aboard time carefully; the charter duration should be planned with a comfortable buffer. Sea conditions can be lively; bring motion-sickness precautions if needed. A fishing licence is included in the charter fee.
