Authentic Caleche Carriage Ride Through Old Edfu Town

Clip-clop through the living streets of Edfu in a private horse-drawn caleche, the traditional carriage that has connected the Nile quay to the temple for generations. This is Egypt as it has been for centuries — unhurried, sensory, and wonderfully human.

What to expect

The caleche departs the quay in a satisfying clatter of hooves on stone, past vendors, schoolchildren, and rooftop pigeons. You'll pass through the old souk quarter where sacks of cumin and hibiscus tea are stacked in doorways. The approach to the temple's massive pylon on carriage-back, with the driver calling out proudly, is one of those travel moments that photographs perfectly and stays with you forever.

Good to know

Best experienced in the cooler morning or late afternoon. Ensure your operator pre-selects a well-kept carriage and healthy horse — a quality operator will always accommodate this. Journey from dock to temple is approximately 10–15 minutes. Combine with a private temple tour for a complete and seamless experience.
