In an extraordinary private session above Avalon's sea cliffs, master falconers teach you to fly Harris's Hawks in open wildland — a medieval art set against the backdrop of the Pacific. Utterly unlike anything else in the California islands.
What to expect
Your master falconer meets you at a clifftop clearing above Avalon where the Pacific stretches uninterrupted to the horizon. After a brief introduction to equipment and technique, you don a leather gauntlet and the Harris's Hawk lands on your arm — its talons surprisingly gentle, its amber eyes startlingly alert. The bird launches, circles low over the sage-covered hillside, and arcs back to your fist on command. The session blends wildlife biology, island ecology, and sheer exhilaration.
Good to know
Minimum age typically 10 years; confirm at booking. Session lasts approximately 60–90 minutes. Reserve exclusively through the Catalina Island Company at +1 (877) 778-8322 — this is one of the island's most limited-capacity experiences. Factor in the short transfer from the tender pier to the session site.
