Sea-kayak through the emerald island maze of the Inians, where tidal rips funnel nutrients that attract an almost absurd concentration of marine life. Paddling here — endorsed by Seabourn Ventures naturalists as a signature Alaska experience — is a once-in-a-lifetime immersion in temperate rainforest and open ocean.
What to expect
After a swift safety and paddling orientation, you launch in stable tandem or solo touring kayaks and follow your SWCA-certified guide through kelp forests and tidal channels. Wildlife sightings — sea otters, Dall's porpoise, black bears on the shoreline — are common. The guide weaves in ecology and Tlingit cultural context throughout. All paddling gear and drysuits are included.
Good to know
No prior kayaking experience required; guides match pace to the group. Allow 3–3.5 hours door to door. Book at least 30 days ahead in July–August. Layered moisture-wicking base layers under the provided drysuit are recommended.
