Paddle the pristine tidal waters of the Behm Canal in a small-group guided sea kayak expedition, threading through sea caves and kelp gardens beneath walls draped in old-growth rainforest. One of the most intimate wildlife encounters in all of Alaska.
What to expect
After a thorough paddling briefing and dry-suit fitting, your small group launches from a sheltered cove near Ketchikan. Your guide leads you through channels flanked by towering spruce, pausing to point out the tell-tale splash of a surfacing harbour seal or the flash of a kingfisher. Tidal caves draped in sea anemones and mussels reward those who duck inside. The guide shares deep knowledge of Tlingit relationships with this waterway, adding cultural depth to the natural spectacle. Dry bags keep cameras safe throughout.
Good to know
No kayaking experience necessary; guides accommodate all fitness levels. Waterproof gear and dry suits provided. Tours run rain or shine — Alaska's mist is part of the magic. Departs from Ketchikan Waterfront; allow 3–3.5 hours. Pre-booking online is strongly advised.
