Lift off over Stephens Passage by helicopter, land on the vast Juneau Icefield, and walk roped onto ancient glacial ice with a certified guide. Few experiences in Alaska are as viscerally thrilling or as visually staggering.
What to expect
A brief scenic flight from Juneau whisks you over the Coast Mountains and deposits you on a remote stretch of glacial ice far from any road or trail. Your AMGA-trained guide fits you with crampons and leads you through a world of crevasses, moulins, and translucent blue ice towers. The icefield stretches to the horizon — 1,500 square miles of living glacier — giving a humbling sense of geological scale. On the return flight, the panorama of Stephens Passage, forested islands, and the Lynn Canal unfolds beneath you.
Good to know
