Engage directly with Alaska Native Tlingit artists and cultural ambassadors for an intimate, expert-led immersion into one of the world's most sophisticated Indigenous cultures — from totem carving to clan storytelling and traditional regalia.
What to expect
The Walter Soboleff Building in downtown Juneau houses one of the finest collections of Northwest Coast Native art in existence, and Sealaska Heritage Institute's cultural guides are clan members themselves. You'll observe master carvers at work on totem poles and ceremonial objects, hear clan histories and the meaning encoded in each crest, and have the rare opportunity to handle and discuss authentic regalia. The experience is deeply personal — questions are welcomed and the conversation goes wherever curiosity leads.
Good to know
The Walter Soboleff Building is a short walk from the Juneau cruise terminal. Programs vary by season; contact the institute directly to arrange a guided group experience aligned with your port day. Photography etiquette will be explained on arrival. Allow 2–3 hours for a meaningful visit.
