Soar over the vast Hubbard Glacier and the St. Elias icefields in a small charter plane — one of the largest non-polar icefields on Earth. The scale seen from the air is simply incomprehensible from the water below.
What to expect
Your small charter plane lifts off from Yakutat Airport and banks immediately toward the St. Elias Range. The glacier's surface unfolds below — a surreal blue-white highway fractured by crevasse fields, moraines, and meltwater rivers. The pilot narrates the geography while circling over the calving face at Disenchantment Bay, then climbs to reveal the surrounding icefields. The 60-minute flight includes a low-level pass over the glacier terminus for photography.
Good to know
Weight limits apply on small charter aircraft — guests should be prepared to disclose weight at booking. Flights are weather-dependent; Gulf Air Taxi is experienced at finding windows in Alaska's changeable conditions. Book directly and as early as possible. Yakutat Airport is a short taxi from the tender dock.
