Spend a privileged hour with Yakutat Tlingit elders and cultural practitioners — learning the stories, regalia, and living traditions of the people who have called this glacial bay home for millennia. Profoundly moving and utterly exclusive.
What to expect
You'll gather in a traditional setting in Yakutat town where tribal cultural practitioners welcome guests with ceremony and song. Elders share the Tlingit oral history of Disenchantment Bay — including ancestral accounts of the glacier's advance and retreat — while practitioners demonstrate regalia, carving, and weaving. A Q&A session allows genuine exchange, and guests are invited to try traditional games. The experience closes with a small tasting of traditional foods including smoked salmon.
