Visit the birthplace of Joséphine de Beauharnais — Napoleon's Empress — in the rolling hills of Trois-Ilets, then retreat to the powdery sands of Anse Mitan for a languorous afternoon of Caribbean luxury. History and hedonism in one elegant half-day.
What to expect
The Musée de la Pagerie occupies the former kitchen ruins of the sugar plantation where Joséphine was born in 1763 — original love letters from Napoleon, portraits, and personal artefacts make this feel astonishingly immediate. A short taxi ride (or 20-minute walk) brings you to Anse Mitan's crescent of white sand and jewel-blue water. Settle into a lounger at one of the elegant beachfront restaurants, order a ti' punch, and let the afternoon dissolve. The ferry back to the pier runs every 20 minutes.
Good to know
Museum is a 10-minute taxi from the pier; open Tuesday–Sunday from 9 AM. Anse Mitan is walkable from the museum. The regular ferry (Blue Lines) connects Anse Mitan to Trois-Ilets pier for EUR 3–5 return — making it easy to time your return to all-aboard. Reserve a beachfront table for lunch in advance during peak season.
