Journey across the ferry to the Curonian Spit — a razor-thin UNESCO World Heritage peninsula of towering amber sand dunes, ancient fishing villages, and primeval pine forests. Stand atop the Great Dune at Nida and watch two worlds collide: the Curonian Lagoon on one side, the Baltic Sea on the other.
What to expect
Your guide meets you dockside and boards the short ferry with you to the Spit. The drive south hugs the lagoon edge, stopping at the Parnidis Dune in Nida — a 52-metre wall of living sand with a monumental sundial at its crest. You'll explore the Thomas Mann Memorial House, stroll cobbled Nida fishing lanes, and taste local smoked fish before returning with time to spare. The light on the lagoon in the afternoon is extraordinary.
Good to know
Ferry crossing from Klaipeda to Smiltynė takes ~8 minutes. Allow 6–7 hours for the full Nida run; confirm all-aboard time with your guide upfront. Pre-book well in advance — private vehicles on the Spit require a permit and availability fills fast in season.
