Climb the mighty Giralda — a former 12th-century Moorish minaret — to gaze over Seville's golden roofscape, then descend into the world's largest Gothic cathedral to stand before Columbus's tomb. Utterly unmissable and visually staggering.
What to expect
You ascend the Giralda's 35 brick ramps — no steps, by Moorish design — emerging onto the bell-tower terrace for a 360° panorama over the Alcázar, the River Guadalquivir, and the city's terracotta sea. Inside the cathedral, gilded altarpieces of staggering scale dwarf the faithful. The Treasury and Sacristy house Zurbarán and Murillo masterworks rarely highlighted on standard visits. The guide concludes at the tomb of Christopher Columbus, carried aloft by four royal heralds — a deeply moving finale.
Good to know
Timed slots disappear fast on peak port days; book the earliest morning slot available. The cathedral is a 10-min walk from the Alcázar — combine both in a single morning. Dress code enforced: shoulders and knees covered.
