Wander the labyrinthine lanes of one of Greece's most beautiful old towns — Venetian arsenals, an Ottoman lighthouse, a covered market — then settle into a harbourfront table for a long Cretan lunch. All with a local expert, entirely at your own pace.
What to expect
Chania is only 10–15 minutes from Souda port, making it the most naturally accessible destination from your ship. A private guide walks you through the Venetian harbour quarter, into the 1913 municipal market, past the Mosque of the Janissaries, and through the Jewish quarter of Evraïki. The old harbour itself — with its lighthouse, restored arsenals and bobbing caïques — is genuinely one of the Mediterranean's great urban waterscapes. Lunch is at a handpicked harbourfront taverna focusing on local Cretan produce.
Good to know
Chania is walkable from the taxi rank at Souda port (taxis approx. EUR 15 one-way) but a private guide with transfer is far preferable for timing. The covered market closes around 14:00, so a morning start is ideal. The harbour is busiest midday — early arrival or late afternoon light is best for photography.
