Immerse yourself in Montserrat's vivid Irish-Caribbean culture — sampling homemade pepper sauce, local rum, and traditional cuisine while your host shares the extraordinary story of an island that rebuilt its identity after volcanic catastrophe.
What to expect
Your local host welcomes your group into a community setting, introducing the island's unique identity — the only place in the Caribbean that celebrates St. Patrick's Day as a public holiday, commemorating both Irish colonial heritage and a historic enslaved peoples' uprising. You'll sample freshly made goatwater stew, fungi, rum punch, and the island's famous pepper sauce, with stories behind each dish. Traditional masquerade music may be performed live. The session is warm, personal, and utterly authentic.
