Seek out Pechocho, a celebrated wild bottlenose dolphin who has made Topolobampo Bay his domain, swimming freely alongside small boats in a rare, unscripted wildlife moment. Add mangrove lagoons and frigate bird colonies for a complete bay spectacle.
What to expect
Depart from the malecón aboard a covered panga and motor into the glassy, island-studded bay. Pechocho — a genuinely wild, sociable dolphin — typically approaches boats in the shallow channels near the mangroves, surfing bow waves and rolling alongside. The captain then navigates the labyrinthine mangrove tunnels, home to roseate spoonbills, herons, and nesting frigates, before cruising past Isla Farallón for sea lion views.
Good to know
The malecón is a 5-minute walk from the pier — no transfer needed. Morning departures (7–9 am) offer calmer water and better wildlife activity. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, a hat, and binoculars. Encounters are wild and never guaranteed, but the 4.8-star rating suggests Pechocho rarely disappoints.
