Hike to Kirkeporten — a spectacular natural rock arch near Skarsvåg that perfectly frames the Arctic Ocean — for what many photographers consider the finest view in all of Arctic Norway. Raw, wild and almost unknown to mainstream tourism.
What to expect
Your expert local Arctic guide leads you on the moderate hike across Magerøya's open tundra from the village of Skarsvåg — the world's northernmost fishing village. The path winds through low Arctic scrub, past grazing reindeer, before the Kirkeporten arch suddenly opens before you: a cathedral window of stone perfectly aligned with the Barents Sea and, in the right season, the Midnight Sun. The view is one of Norway's great photographic secrets. Your guide provides cultural and natural history commentary throughout, plus warm Arctic snacks at the arch.
