Step inside a faithfully restored 19th-century Jeju village of 100 traditional thatched stone houses, with a private guide who brings the shamanic rituals, fishing culture, and volcanic-stone architecture to vivid life — far beyond any self-guided visit.
What to expect
Spread across 100 acres on Jeju's south coast, the Folk Village is Korea's most authentic open-air living museum, with artisans, shamanic ritual spaces, and livestock exactly as they were in the Joseon era. Your private guide navigates the three village districts — mountain, central, and fishing — explaining the unique Jeju matriarchal social structure, the haenyeo connection, and the role of the dol hareubang (stone grandfather) statues. Period craft demonstrations — pottery, rope-weaving, and tteok (rice cake) making — allow hands-on participation.
Good to know
The village is approx. 25 min east of Seogwipo Port; easily combined with a Seongsan Ilchulbong visit. Open daily 08:30–18:00 (last entry 17:00). Pre-book your private guide to ensure English-language expertise. Allow a minimum of 2 hrs on-site.
