Shelburne Harbour is one of the finest natural harbours in Atlantic Canada — and the cold waters beyond teem with lobster, bluefin tuna, and abundant wildlife. A private charter with a working fishing captain puts you right in the middle of it all.
What to expect
Your captain departs right from Shelburne's historic waterfront, threading through the harbour past 18th-century loyalist wharves before heading into open Atlantic waters. You'll haul lobster traps alongside the captain, learning the rhythms of inshore fishing that have defined this coast for 250 years. On the return, scan the shoreline for bald eagles, harbour seals, and — in season — the flashing backs of bluefin tuna. Fresh sea air, salt spray, and a cold local beer at the dock complete the afternoon.
Good to know
Shelburne is the home port — no travel time required. Book early in the season as private charters are limited; contact Shelburne County Tourism to be connected with licensed local operators. Bring layers even in summer; the harbour can be brisk.
