Follow a dramatic coastal path from Sorrento's cliffs to a natural sea pool set within the crumbling ruins of a Roman villa — the former pleasure baths of Queen Giovanna. Swim in translucent green water surrounded by 2,000-year-old stonework for an experience that feels entirely your own.
What to expect
Your guide leads you westward along Sorrento's clifftop, past fragrant lemon groves and prickly pear hedges, with panoramic views opening across the Bay of Naples towards Vesuvius. The path descends to the Punta del Capo headland where the skeletal arches of the Villa di Pollio Felice frame the sea. A natural rock channel connects the open sea to the sheltered pool: the water here is strikingly clear, protected from swell, and perfect for snorkelling among the ancient foundations. A local expert provides historical context for both the Roman villa and the medieval legend of Queen Giovanna herself. Return on the same scenic path in roughly 2 hours total.
Good to know
The trail is 3–4 km return with some uneven terrain and a stepped descent to the water — wear grippy shoes and bring a swimsuit, towel and water. There is no entry fee to the site itself; you pay for the guided walk. Best visited in the morning before the summer heat peaks. Departs directly from Sorrento town centre, a short walk from the port tender landing — no transport needed.
