Step aboard the last whale chaser in the Southern Hemisphere at Cheynes Beach Whaling Station — now Whale World — and walk the decks of an industry that shaped Albany, surrounded by extraordinarily preserved artefacts and confronting, unforgettable storytelling.
What to expect
Whale World sprawls across the original 1978 Cheynes Beach station on the shores of Frenchman Bay, 20 minutes from the port. The centrepiece is the 1,200-tonne Cheynes IV whale chaser — climb aboard for a guided tour of her four decks and feel the sheer industrial power that hunted blue and sperm whales. A 4D cinema experience and a restored humpback skeleton add layers of awe. The museum's curation is world-class: honest, moving, and deeply Antipodean.
