Walk a jaw-dropping 40-metre cantilevered steel skywalk anchored to a 1.1-billion-year-old granite dome in the Porongurup National Park — with 360° views stretching from the Southern Ocean to the Stirling Ranges and jarrah forest below your feet.
What to expect
A 45-minute drive east of Albany leads into the Porongurup Range, a granite island rising from the coastal plain. The trail to Castle Rock winds through towering karri trees before the granite dome emerges dramatically from the forest. Chains assist the final ascent onto the dome, where the stainless-steel skywalk cantilevers out over a sheer drop — the views on a clear day are staggering. Allow 3–4 hours return for the walk, which is moderately challenging but well within reach of any fit traveller.
Good to know
Best visited early morning for clear views before sea breeze cloud builds. Hire a car from Albany for independence — the range is 40 minutes from port. Wear sturdy shoes; the granite can be slippery after rain. Pack water and a light layer. Combine with a stop at one of the Porongurup wine estates on the return journey.
