Walk — or ride — the Southern Hemisphere's longest timber-piled jetty, then descend 8 metres into a living coral reef observatory teeming with nudibranchs, octopus and jewel-bright fish. An utterly singular Australian icon.
What to expect
Board the charming jetty train for the 1.75 km glide over Geographe Bay to the observatory pavilion at the end. Descend the spiral staircase to the octagonal chamber, where coral gardens press against every porthole. Rangers narrate the reef ecology before you ride back to shore with panoramic bay views. Allow 90–120 minutes end-to-end.
Good to know
Bookings are essential and sell out fast on cruise-ship days — reserve online before sailing. The full train + observatory experience departs roughly every 30 minutes. It is a 10-minute walk from the Busselton cruise tender pontoon to the jetty entrance. All-aboard timing: allow a 45-minute buffer from the observatory back to the pier.
