Escape to the wide, wind-swept arc of Cabugao Beach — one of Ilocos Sur's most beautifully undeveloped stretches of coastline — and island-hop by bangka to the tiny offshore islet for swimming in perfectly transparent water.
What to expect
The drive south along the Ilocos coast is itself scenic — rice paddies, tobacco fields, and centuries-old stone churches punctuate the National Highway. Cabugao's beach is an impressive sweep of pale sand facing the South China Sea, backed by casuarina pines that provide natural shade. A short bangka crossing delivers you to Isla de Cabugao, a tiny emerald islet with boulders perfect for jumping and a reef shelf ideal for snorkelling. Fresh grilled seafood can be arranged with the local bangka operators on-site.
Good to know
Cabugao is approx. 20 km south of Salomague Port (30 min drive) — one of the closest beach options. Ideal for a half-day, leaving morning free for Vigan. Bring cash for any local food purchases; facilities are rustic. Confirm sea and weather conditions on the morning of the call.
