Trek through fragrant cedar and pine forest to the Caledonia Waterfall — Cyprus's most beautiful cascade, tumbling into a cool rock pool at 1,380 m altitude — then lunch in a centuries-old mountain village. A breath of wild, green Cyprus utterly unlike the coast.
What to expect
Your private guide drives you up into the Troodos highlands to the trailhead above Platres village, where the Caledonia Trail begins in a canopy of ancient pines. The 4 km round-trip path follows a babbling stream through rock-strewn forest, arriving at the 12-metre Caledonia Waterfall — a cool, photogenic oasis that rewards every step. After the hike, your guide leads you to a family-run taverna in Platres or Kakopetria for a proper Cypriot village lunch: kleftiko, halloumi fresh off the grill and local Zivania spirit. The return drive offers sweeping Troodos panoramas.
Good to know
The Caledonia trailhead is approximately 1 hour from Limassol port. The trail is well-marked but involves a gentle descent and ascent on rocky terrain — sturdy walking shoes are essential. Allow 5–6 hours in total. Temperatures in the Troodos are noticeably cooler than the coast; a light layer is recommended even in summer.
