Nanzoin Reclining Buddha & Hidden Kyushu: Private Discovery

Come face-to-face with the world's largest bronze reclining Buddha — 41 metres of serene magnificence tucked deep in a forested mountain temple that most visitors never reach. Paired with the atmospheric Dazaifu district, this is Kyushu's most surprising cultural revelation.

What to expect

Your guide drives you 30 minutes west of Hakata into the verdant Sasaguri hills to Nanzoin Temple, home to the colossal bronze Shakyamuni reclining in peaceful nirvana. You'll light incense, explore the surrounding stone-lantern paths, and visit the smaller devotional halls before returning via a curated stop at a neighbourhood yatai or local food market. The whole excursion wraps neatly within a half-day, leaving the afternoon free.
