Resolution Island hosts one of the most densely packed seabird cliffs in the Canadian Arctic — hundreds of thousands of thick-billed murres, northern fulmars and black-legged kittiwakes in a single breathtaking panorama. A naturalist-guided small-group excursion here is a once-in-a-lifetime wildlife spectacle.
What to expect
You approach the cliffs by Zodiac, cutting engines at 50 metres to avoid disturbing the colony. The sound is immersive — a roaring wall of calls from hundreds of thousands of birds on every ledge. Your ornithologist narrates breeding behaviour in real time, pointing out chick-feeding, territorial disputes and the wheeling aerobatics of kittiwakes. Binoculars and a spotting scope are provided; photography guidance is offered for optimal low-Arctic light.
Good to know
Peak nesting season is July–August; check your cruise date against this window. The excursion is weather-dependent — swell must be below 1.5 m for Zodiac approach. Book as far in advance as possible as Arctic Kingdom limits group sizes to eight guests per naturalist.
