Step ashore with an Inuit guide whose family has navigated these waters for generations, and learn to 'read' the Arctic landscape the way Nunavut's people always have — ice, wind, tide and wildlife as a living map. A rare and profoundly human encounter at the edge of the world.
What to expect
Your guide leads you across tundra and along the shoreline, pausing to demonstrate traditional wayfinding, stone-cache (inukshuk) construction and the use of Arctic plants for food and medicine. A mid-expedition meal of traditionally prepared country foods — bannock, Arctic char, dried musk-ox — is shared around a camp stove. The afternoon closes with a lesson in Inuktitut place-names and their navigational significance. Groups are capped at six guests.
Good to know
Rubber boots and full waterproof outerwear are essential; tundra is uneven and frequently wet. Dietary needs must be communicated 48 hours in advance. This excursion requires a moderate level of walking fitness over uneven terrain (approx. 4–6 km).
