Soar over Greenland's Ilulissat Icefjord — a UNESCO World Heritage site — before touching down on an ancient glacier for a champagne moment atop the world's most productive ice sheet. Few experiences on Earth match this aerial perspective of cascading seracs and indigo meltwater rivers.
What to expect
You lift off from Ilulissat's compact helipad and within minutes are banking over a cathedral of blue-white ice towers stretching to the horizon. The pilot descends to glacier level, hovering beside house-sized icebergs before landing on a stable ice plateau for photos and a guided explanation of the fjord's dramatic retreat. On the return leg, the town's colourful wooden houses and dog-sled trails come into view — a vivid contrast of human life beside geological immensity. Total flight time is 45–90 minutes depending on the package.
Good to know
Book directly with Air Greenland at least 6–8 weeks ahead; summer slots are extremely limited. Weather-dependent — early-morning flights have the clearest skies. Weight limits apply (typically 120 kg per passenger including gear). Ilulissat port call timing should be confirmed against your cruise schedule before booking.
