Paddle a sea kayak through the mirror-calm waters of Eclipse Sound, beneath towering limestone cliffs alive with thousands of nesting thick-billed murres and black-legged kittiwakes, with Bylot Island's ice caps glowing on the horizon.
What to expect
After a swift dry-suit briefing and fitting on shore, you slide your kayak into Eclipse Sound's glassy waters and begin paddling south toward the seabird cliffs. The noise builds before the cliffs appear — a deafening, magnificent chorus of hundreds of thousands of birds. Your guide points out nesting pairs, explains the migratory science, and positions the group for photography without disturbing the colony. On the return, narwhals are frequently sighted in the channel between Bylot Island and the Baffin mainland — a genuine Arctic rarity. Total paddle time is approximately 3–3.5 hours.
Good to know
Pond Inlet is a tender port; factor 20–25 minutes each way. Dry suits are provided but paddling fitness is required — moderate upper-body effort for 3+ hours. Pre-book directly with Arctic Kingdom 6–8 weeks ahead; narwhal season peaks late July through August. Confirm departure timing against your all-aboard schedule.
