Glide by Zodiac deep into the primordial heart of Nachvak Fiord, where 900-metre granite walls plunge into jade-green Arctic waters. This is one of the last truly untouched wilderness fjords on Earth — no roads, no crowds, pure silence.
What to expect
Your certified Arctic guide manoeuvres the Zodiac to within metres of sheer granite faces, pointing out peregrine falcon nests and ancient glacial striations. The scale is humbling: walls rise so high they create their own micro-climate, and mist often crowns the peaks. Seals and Arctic char leap in the wake of the boat as you penetrate deeper into the fiord. Silence, broken only by the trickle of snowmelt waterfalls, makes this one of the most meditative experiences on the continent.
Good to know
Nachvak Fiord is accessible only by sea or air — there are zero roads. Wear layered merino wool and a wind-proof shell; temperatures can drop 10°C inside the fiord walls. Confirm timing with expedition staff well before all-aboard as radio communication in the fiord can be limited. Dry bags for cameras are essential.
