Paddle a stable sea kayak through the narrow tidal channels threading the Lower Savage Islands, at eye-level with harbour seals and Arctic terns in one of the least-visited paddling environments on Earth. Pure wilderness immersion under an enormous Arctic sky.
What to expect
After a 15-minute land briefing and equipment fitting, you launch onto glassy tidal water that mirrors the sky in extraordinary detail. The guide leads you through a sequence of island passages where tidal currents accelerate and create upwellings rich in Arctic char and ringed seal. Paddle strokes slow as you navigate a kelp garden; the guide points out bladder wrack, Arctic loon nests, and the basalt columns of a sea arch accessible only by kayak. The finale is an open-water crossing to a cobble spit for hot tea and shortbread before return.
Good to know
No prior kayak experience required — the touring kayaks are double-hulled and highly stable. Dry-suit immersion gear is provided. Maximum Beaufort 3 wind conditions required for safe operation; the guide monitors forecasts and will substitute a Zodiac excursion if seas exceed threshold. Confirm booking 45 days prior.
