Sea-kayak in a tandem or single craft directly beneath Lady Franklin Island's towering seabird cliffs, where hundreds of thousands of thick-billed murres, black-legged kittiwakes, and glaucous gulls nest. This is the only way to experience the cliffs at water level.
What to expect
After a 20-minute safety and paddle briefing, your certified sea-kayak guide leads the group along the cliff base in calm, sheltered water. The sheer walls above you are alive with avian chaos — a UNESCO-calibre wildlife spectacle in one of the least-visited corners of the planet. Your guide identifies species, explains nesting ecology, and points out Arctic char visible through the crystalline water below. The route culminates at a quiet cove for a thermos of hot tea before the return.
Good to know
Participants should have basic fitness and comfort on the water; no prior kayaking experience required. Drysuits and all equipment are provided. Maximum 8 paddlers per guide. Confirm sea-state suitability on the morning of the excursion. Allow 3–4 hours including briefing.
