Paddle a sea kayak at the very threshold of the Northwest Passage, weaving silently between ice floes and bergy bits in Lancaster Sound — a once-in-a-lifetime perspective on the High Arctic that no Zodiac can replicate.
What to expect
Fitted with a dry suit and full safety gear, you'll launch from the expedition vessel's stern platform into mirror-still Arctic water. At paddle height, the icebergs are immense — translucent turquoise beneath the surface, sparkling white above — and the scale of Lancaster Sound becomes visceral. Ringed seals pop their heads up to watch you curiously. Your guide narrates the ecology of sea ice as you drift between floes. An hour on the water here feels more alive than a week anywhere else.
Good to know
Prior kayaking experience required (flat-water level minimum). Dry suits and all safety equipment are provided. This activity is strictly weather- and ice-condition dependent; the expedition team makes a go/no-go call each morning. Book well in advance as spots are extremely limited.
