Devon Island's sea cliffs host thousands of nesting thick-billed murres, black-legged kittiwakes, and glaucous gulls. A dedicated polar naturalist guides you to the prime vantage points for unobstructed, world-class wildlife photography.
What to expect
Walking the clifftop path above the harbour, the noise of the colony reaches you before you see it — a vast, chattering city of seabirds stacked on narrow ledges from sea level to the sky. Your naturalist sets up each shot opportunity thoughtfully, explaining nesting behaviour, Arctic ecology, and the extraordinary navigational lives of these birds. The light in the High Arctic — long, golden, and low even at midday in summer — turns every frame into something extraordinary. This is genuinely world-class wildlife photography terrain.
Good to know
A 300mm+ telephoto lens is strongly recommended. The clifftop path is narrow and exposed — sure-footedness and a head for heights are needed. This excursion runs in conjunction with the tundra landing; timing depends on the expedition's Zodiac schedule and all-aboard time.
