Paddle a sea kayak through mirror-calm Arctic waters hemmed in by cliffs that soar hundreds of metres overhead, drifting silently past bergy bits and listening for the splash of ringed seals. Kayaking in the High Arctic is among the most serene and exclusive experiences on the planet.
What to expect
After a shoreside equipment fitting and a 20-minute skills orientation, you launch into the sheltered inner bay in a stable tandem or solo sea kayak. The guide leads the group along the cliffside where Thule-era rock structures are visible above the waterline. Patches of brash ice are navigated with care, creating a natural slalom of brilliant blue-white forms. Gloves, dry-bags, and a hot-drink thermos are supplied; a 10-minute capsize-rescue refresher is standard practice.
Good to know
No prior kayak experience is required, but basic swimming ability is mandatory. Drysuits are provided — accept the full fitting and do not skip the spray-skirt tutorial. Allow 3 hours total including transfers; confirm the all-aboard window at booking. Spaces are limited to 8 and sell out months in advance.
