Descend into the resurrected Renaissance court of Hungary's medieval kings, then ascend to the Citadel for a panorama of the Danube Bend that has stopped travellers in their tracks for 700 years. A private historian guide unlocks layers no self-guided visit can touch.
What to expect
Your guide meets you at the dock and leads you first to the Royal Palace of Visegrád, where 15th-century Matthias Corvinus hosted the most brilliant Renaissance court north of the Alps. You'll examine the ornate carved stonework and the famous Hercules Fountain up close. From there, a short climb — or transfer — takes you to the Citadel, perched 350 m above the river, where the full sweep of the Danube Bend unfolds in every direction. The return is leisurely, with time for a glass of Egri Bikavér (Bull's Blood) at a riverside terrace.
