Koh Tao: Certified Dive or VIP Snorkel at Sail Rock

Sail Rock is the Gulf of Thailand's premier dive site — a towering pinnacle rising from 40 m depth, swarming with whale sharks (Oct–Dec) and vast schools of chevron barracuda. This private speedboat charter gets you there first, before the dive boats crowd in.

What to expect

Board a private speedboat from Mae Haad Pier, Koh Tao, and cut 40 minutes north to Sail Rock. Certified divers descend through the famous 'chimney' — a vertical swim-through alive with glassfish — while snorkelers drift over the submerged peak in gin-clear visibility. Surface intervals are spent on a sun deck with fresh fruit and cold towels. A second dive explores the pinnacle's west face where grouper and turtles idle in the current.

Good to know

Koh Tao is reachable by high-speed ferry (2 hrs) from Koh Samui; factor transit time carefully against all-aboard. Pre-book 2–3 weeks ahead for private charters. Non-divers can join as snorkelers. Whale shark season peaks October–December but sightings occur year-round.
