Journey south along the Atlantic coast to Tanji — Africa's busiest artisanal fishing beach — then retreat to a pristine stretch of Paradise Beach for a private, unhurried afternoon on one of West Africa's most spectacular shorelines.
What to expect
Your private guide leads you through Tanji's fishing beach at peak activity — hundreds of brightly painted pirogues returning with the morning catch, women smoking fish over open fires, pelicans jostling for scraps in extraordinary numbers. A visit to Tanji Bird Reserve adds scarlet bee-eaters and kingfishers to the itinerary. Paradise Beach delivers a long, empty Atlantic strand for a private lunch, a swim, and the kind of unhurried stillness that is genuinely rare.
Good to know
Located approximately 30 km south of Banjul — 45 minutes by private vehicle. A half-day version (fishing village and beach only) returns comfortably by mid-afternoon; add the bird reserve for a full day. Tanji is most vivid between 8–11 am when boats return. Wear light layers; the Atlantic breeze is deceptive and sunburn is quick.
