Paddle silently through ancient mangrove labyrinths teeming with kingfishers, mudskippers, and nesting herons — a rare, low-impact wildlife encounter in one of Africa's most biodiverse coastal ecosystems.
What to expect
Single and double sea kayaks are fitted out with dry bags, life vests, and splash covers; guides brief you on paddling technique before entering the mangrove network. As the canopy closes overhead, the temperature drops and the soundscape shifts — fish eagles call overhead, fiddler crabs scuttle on exposed roots, and the guide points out medicinal plants used by local communities for centuries. At a natural clearing, you rest, hydrate, and scan the open water for bottlenose dolphins, frequently spotted in the channel beyond. The return paddle is assisted by the tidal current.
Good to know
No prior kayaking experience required — guides adapt pace to the group. Apply sunscreen and insect repellent before launch; mangroves can shelter mosquitoes. Secure all-aboard time carefully; allow 30 minutes transfer buffer from the launch point.
