Hike through ancient Kimberley savanna to a four-tiered waterfall sacred to the Wunambal Gaambera people, then helicopter back over the cascade for an aerial view that redefines scale.
What to expect
A fixed-wing flight from Broome or a short transfer from the plateau brings you to the trailhead. The 8 km return trail winds through pandanus palms, across weathered sandstone and past swimming holes before opening onto the breathtaking four-tier falls. An Indigenous Wunambal Gaambera ranger shares cultural meaning at each landing. The helicopter lift home — banking low over each tier — is a fitting, spectacular finale.
Good to know
The walk is moderately strenuous (approx. 3–4 hours return) over uneven sandstone; sturdy enclosed footwear essential. Departs from Mitchell Plateau airstrip — co-ordinate transfer timing with your vessel. Pre-booking the helicopter return is strongly advised as seats are limited.
