Ride sure-footed Andean horses through ethereal cloud forest draped in mist and moss at the equatorial latitude, led by a private naturalist who reveals the world's greatest concentration of orchid species in their wild habitat.
What to expect
Your private guide meets you dockside and drives you to the misty 1,800 m cloud forest reserve where Andean horses are saddled and waiting. You ride through cathedral-like tunnels of tree ferns and bromeliads, dismounting to examine electric-pink orchids and hummingbirds no larger than your thumb. A farm-to-table lunch of Andean quinoa stew, freshly pressed mora berry juice, and hand-made chocolate rounds off the morning. The descent back delivers sweeping views of the equatorial Andes.
Good to know
Riders of all experience levels are welcome; horses are gentle and expertly trained. Wear long trousers and closed-toe shoes. Book at least 3–4 weeks ahead as this reserve limits daily visitor numbers strictly. Total round-trip from dock is approximately 5–6 hours — well within a standard port day.
