Land on Cousin Island — one of the world's most important seabird sanctuaries and an internationally recognised conservation success story — for an exclusive guided visit among nesting fairy terns, hawksbill turtles, and rare Seychelles warblers.
What to expect
The boat ride from Praslin to Cousin takes only 15 minutes but transports you to a world apart: 300,000 seabirds nest here, and frigatebirds wheel overhead as you wade ashore. Rangers explain the island's remarkable transformation from a coconut plantation to a global conservation model. Hawksbill turtles rest on the beach with an indifference born of total protection. Rare Seychelles warblers, once down to 26 individuals, now number in the hundreds here.
Good to know
Cousin is off Praslin — allow a domestic flight or Cat Cocos ferry from Mahé. Visits are permitted mornings only (09:30–12:00); strict limits on visitor numbers mean early booking is essential. No sunscreen, no touching wildlife. Closed on Saturdays.
