Trek Madagascar's first national park — a lush volcanic massif cloaked in rainforest, threaded with waterfalls, and alive with chameleons, orchids, and crowned lemurs found nowhere else on Earth.
What to expect
A private vehicle collects you from the port for the scenic 1.5-hour drive south to Montagne d'Ambre, Madagascar's oldest national park. Inside, a certified park naturalist accompanies you through cathedral-like rainforest, pointing out tiny Brookesia chameleons camouflaged on leaves, crowned lemurs peering from the canopy, and vivid orchids clinging to ancient trees. The trail leads to the dramatic Sacred Lake and its attendant waterfall — a spot of near-spiritual quiet. Picnic lunch is taken overlooking the forest.
