Descend into a cathedral of ancient limestone formations, underground lakes, and rare cave coral discovered by miners in 1868. Iowa's only show cave and one of the Midwest's most spectacular geological experiences.
What to expect
A knowledgeable guide leads you along illuminated pathways through chambers adorned with stalactites, stalagmites, flowstone curtains, and extremely rare cave coral (aragonite) found in few caves in the world. The underground lake shimmers with crystalline reflections under carefully placed lighting. The history of the cave's 1868 discovery by lead miners adds a rich layer of Dubuque's mining heritage to the experience. The guided tour lasts approximately 45 minutes at a comfortable, accessible pace.
