Perched 200 feet above the Mississippi on Dubuque's northern bluff, Eagle Point Park is a New Deal-era masterpiece of stone pavilions, sculpted gardens, and jaw-dropping river views across three states. One of the most beautiful municipal parks in America.
What to expect
Stroll along a network of paved paths threading between CCC-built stone shelters, pergolas, and terraced overlooks, each one framing a slightly different angle of the river valley below. The main overlook delivers a commanding 180-degree view of the Upper Mississippi, the Wisconsin bluffs opposite, and the engineered spectacle of the lock and dam. Meticulously maintained flower gardens bloom across multiple seasons, making the park photogenic at any time of year. A peaceful, unhurried 60-to-90-minute walk connects all the major viewpoints.
Good to know
Located approximately 3 miles north of the port — a short rideshare ride. Open daily from 7 a.m.; closes in the evening. Completely flat and paved paths make this accessible for all mobility levels. Arrive in the morning for the best light on the river. Combine with a stop at nearby Stone Cliff Winery (2 miles south) for an Iowa wine tasting before returning to port.
