Coco Beach Sunset & Oyster Bay Private Coastal Experience

Escape to Dar es Salaam's most beautiful stretch of Indian Ocean coastline — the palm-fringed bay at Oyster Bay and Coco Beach — for a private afternoon of azure water, fresh grilled lobster, and one of the most photogenic sunsets in East Africa.

What to expect

A private car whisks you 6 km from the port to Oyster Bay, passing the elegant diplomatic quarter and colonial villas draped in bougainvillea. Settle into a shaded terrace at Toby's — the preferred lunch spot of Dar's expatriate and diplomatic community — for grilled catch-of-the-day, prawn piri-piri, and fresh coconut. Afterwards, stroll the white-sand arc of Coco Beach as the sky turns amber and rose. The Indian Ocean breeze and the sight of dhow silhouettes against a burning horizon is genuinely, memorably spectacular.

Good to know

Best timed for a 13:00 arrival to enjoy lunch and the late-afternoon golden hour. The beach is busiest on weekends — cruise port days are typically quieter. Swimwear and reef shoes recommended if you wish to enter the water. A 30-minute return transfer ensures you're back at the port with ample time before all-aboard.
