Soar 1,011 metres above the Nordfjord in Scandinavia's steepest cable car, then explore the ridge-top panorama of Mount Hoven with a local guide. One of Norway's most breathtaking viewpoints — and the cable car is an engineering marvel in itself.
What to expect
A comfortable minibus winds through pastoral Nordfjord scenery before arriving at the base station at Loen. The cable car rises at an almost vertical angle, depositing you on a ridge with 360-degree views across Innvikfjorden, the Jostedal glacier plateau, and snow-dusted peaks stretching into infinity. Your guide leads a relaxed walk along the summit ridge, pointing out landmarks and sharing stories of the catastrophic 1936 rockslide that reshaped the valley below. The Hoven restaurant at the top offers an exceptional lunch stop with perhaps the best view of any dining table in Norway.
Good to know
Pre-book the Skylift directly at loen-skylift.no to guarantee your gondola slot — it sells out, especially in summer. The summit can be cool and windy; bring a windproof layer. Allow a full 5–6 hours for the complete experience including the drive.
