Explore Cahuita's UNESCO-recognised coral reef — Costa Rica's largest — by snorkel, then walk the park's sun-dappled coastal trail where sloths, white-faced capuchins, and rainbow-billed toucans are virtually guaranteed. Sea and jungle in one seamless morning.
What to expect
The 45-minute drive south along the Caribbean coast is itself scenic. At Cahuita, a local park guide leads the coastal trail — sloths are reliably spotted in the almond trees, and capuchin troops often approach the path. The reef snorkel reveals parrotfish, eagle rays, and nurse sharks in crystalline turquoise water. A fresh tropical fruit break is typically included.
Good to know
Cahuita is approximately 45 minutes south of Puerto Limón. Pack reef-safe sunscreen, a rash guard, and a dry bag. The park trail is flat and accessible. Confirm snorkel equipment is included when booking and allow a 30-minute all-aboard buffer for the return drive.
